Some people call me a hard worker, others call me self-motivated, while others call me a workaholic. I would like to think of myself as someone who knows how to balance her time to achieve what she wants. I have two passions that seem to be complete opposites, dancing and soccer, but because of that, they complete me.
Dancing is an art that has the power to overwhelm me, whether I am watching or a part of a performance. I began dancing at the early age of three, and as I have matured, it has become an outlet of expression for me. I love the gut-wrenching nervousness of standing behind the curtain or being in front of a cheering crowd at a basketball game. Being a member and squad leader of my high school dance team has given me an opportunity to practice and perform my passion for dance with about twenty other girls. Teamwork is crucial in this expressive art form, but it is nothing compared to the cohesiveness necessary on the soccer field.
The smell of grass and sweat, the feeling of dribbling the ball down the field, and the sounds of teammates working together to be successful are partially why I love the game of soccer. I strive to become stronger as the game requires much stamina, endurance, and ball skills. Also, the battles that take place on the field teach me to never surrender and to fight through the pain, fatigue, and adversity, because defeating an opponent is the ultimate goal. However, winning is not everything, and the real aspect of the game I love the most is the unity that has to happen within the team before any victories can occur. A connection is made on a team, a trust in the other players as I look teammates in the eye to communicate a pass to them and they in return know I am there for support -- this is the part of the game I love the most.
Dance has made me a better soccer player; I am the most graceful player on the field. Soccer has taught me to never stop pushing myself even when things get tough. Both sports have molded me into a person who works hard, is self-motivated, and realizes that anything is possible with a little determination. I am passionate about dance and soccer where I strive for excellence, whether on the dance floor or soccer field.
